The Magic of Music

  How is it? That music can touch your soul…
Evoking memories of days gone by, and creating the mood for special moments and cherished events?
Music, it can make us happy, make us sad, get us moving, or calm us down,
inspiring us to create, allowing us a reprise from the ordinary moments of everyday life
and transforming them into soul touching, dream making, thought provoking gifts!
How many times do we hear a song, and find ourselves traveling back through the speed of sound to a special place in time, a long forgotten friend, a piece of our soul captured forever in the sound of a note…

 The beginning of this summer, my daughter Rose was searching for a “summer night driving song”
Being a musician, she knew what she was looking for, she knew the feeling that she was trying to capture, and she
searched…. through older music now left behind, and new music awaiting an ear, and somewhere within her search
I found my “Summer Feel Good Song”.
It is a song by John Mayer, the first on his new “Moving on and Getting Over” CD.
It is called “Still Feel Like Your Man”.
Something about this song captures me no matter where I happen to be when I hear it. It reminds me of a combination of Motown magic and the smooth jazz of early George Benson. I cannot be sad when I am listening to this song, my body wants to move and my voice wants to sing, and although some might see it as a sad melody of lost love, I see it as the quintessential love that never dies.
It is the kind of song that everyone should have on hand for that time when nothing else can pick you up, not even wine or chocolate!

 Piano music effects my fingers…
It travels into my ears, through my heart, into my soul and comes out the tips of my fingers and onto a key board, or
the pages of a favorite journal.
Yes, piano music is my writing muse. If there are words trapped inside, thoughts unwritten, feelings that need to be
released, it is piano music that brings them to the forefront. The unwritten words to the song await my ponderings and flow out like a wave breaking onto the shore and spreading out onto the sand, leaving behind little treasures .
My soul dances to the melody, swaying back and forth inside me, touching every magical place within, filling me up and taking me away to places I can only get to, on the note of a piano key…
